Our Story
We Buy Scrap Cars & Vans started from a single yard in Fort William, at the foot of Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands. What began as a small operation collecting end-of-life vehicles from neighbouring towns grew into one of Scotland's busiest independent vehicle recyclers.
The idea was simple from the start: give people a fair price, collect for free, and pay on the spot. No waiting days for a bank transfer, no hidden deductions when the driver arrives, no complicated paperwork left on the customer's plate. That approach earned us repeat business, word-of-mouth referrals, and a reputation across the Highlands that spread south to the Central Belt and beyond.
Today we process over 250 vehicles every month from locations across Scotland, from Shetland and the Western Isles to Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Aberdeen. Every car and van passes through our Authorised Treatment Facility at Yard 1 A, Mount Alexander, Fort William, PH33 7NF, where it is depolluted, dismantled, and recycled in line with SEPA regulations.
What We Do
We offer nine specialist vehicle disposal and recycling services, each tailored to a different situation. Whether you have a write-off sitting on the drive, a van that failed its MOT, or a Tesla with a degraded battery pack, we have a process built for it.
How We Work
Every vehicle we collect follows a strict end-of-life process designed to maximise recycling yield and minimise environmental harm. Here is what happens from the moment you accept your quote:
Quote & Collection Booking
You enter your registration and postcode. Our system returns a firm price based on current steel rates, vehicle kerb weight, and salvageable parts. Accept it and pick a collection slot — mornings, afternoons, or weekends, seven days a week.
Free Flatbed Collection
Our driver arrives at your address with a flatbed transporter. The vehicle is loaded regardless of condition — non-runners, seized engines, flat tyres, and missing wheels are all part of a normal day. You are paid by cash or instant bank transfer before the truck leaves.
DVLA Administration
We file a V5C notification with the DVLA electronically the same day. Your road tax is cancelled and any remaining months are refunded directly by the DVLA. You receive a Certificate of Destruction by post confirming the vehicle is legally off the road.
Depollution
At our ATF yard, the vehicle is drained of all hazardous fluids: engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, fuel, and air conditioning refrigerant. The battery is removed and sent for lead-acid recycling. Airbags are safely deployed or removed.
Dismantling & Parts Recovery
Salvageable components are stripped, tested, and catalogued for resale through our breakers yard. Engines, gearboxes, alternators, body panels, doors, and lighting — anything with remaining life is kept out of landfill and sold at a fraction of main-dealer cost.
Crushing & Recycling
The stripped shell is sheared, baled, and shipped to UK steel mills for smelting. Plastics, glass, rubber, and textiles are separated and sent to specialist recyclers. We achieve a recycling rate above 95% by weight on every vehicle we process.

Authorised Treatment Facility
Licensed by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) to receive and process end-of-life vehicles. ATF status means we meet strict environmental standards for depollution, fluid containment, and waste management.
Environmental Compliance
Our yard operates under a Waste Management Licence with regular SEPA inspections. Every fluid, gas, and hazardous material is captured, contained, and disposed of through approved channels — nothing enters the water table or soil.
DVLA Registered
We are registered with the DVLA as an authorised vehicle disposer. Every vehicle we process receives an electronic V5C notification the same day, and a Certificate of Destruction is issued and posted to the registered keeper.
Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013
Fully registered under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, which requires identity verification for all sellers, cashless payment records, and regular local authority inspections. This legislation exists to prevent vehicle theft and metal fraud.

Our yard is in Fort William, but our collection network covers the whole of Scotland. We run scheduled routes through every major population centre and dispatch dedicated pickups to rural areas, islands, and remote postcodes.

We built this business on three principles, and every decision we make comes back to them:
- Honesty on price. The quote you receive online is the amount our driver hands you at collection. We do not reduce the offer on arrival, add hidden transport charges, or deduct admin fees. The number does not change.
- Respect for your time. We offer morning, afternoon, and weekend slots seven days a week. If we book a time, we turn up at that time. If circumstances change on either side, we reschedule without penalty.
- Responsibility to the environment. Vehicle recycling carries real environmental risk if done poorly — spilled fluids, landfilled plastics, uncontained battery acid. Our SEPA-licensed facility ensures that every vehicle is processed to the standard the law requires and the planet deserves.
