EVs are often heavier than petrol equivalents, and their batteries contain recoverable materials. Both factors feed into your price.
About Our Scrap Electric Car Service
Standard scrap yards often lack the training to safely handle 400-800V battery systems. Our team follows manufacturer disconnect procedures, uses insulated tools rated to 1,000V, and stores removed packs in ventilated, fireproof bays before onward recycling.
What We Accept
Vehicles we regularly handle through our scrap electric car service:
- Full battery-electric vehicles -- Tesla Model 3/Y, Nissan Leaf, MG4, BMW i3, Renault Zoe, VW ID.3, Hyundai Ioniq 5
- Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles -- Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, BMW 330e, Mercedes A250e, Volvo XC40 Recharge
- Mild hybrid systems -- 48V starter-generator setups found in newer Audis, Mercedes, and Suzuki models
- Electric vans -- Vauxhall Vivaro-e, Renault Kangoo E-Tech, Mercedes eVito, Ford E-Transit
- Accident-damaged EVs -- collision damage where the high-voltage system must be safely decommissioned
- Battery-degraded vehicles -- EVs with reduced range that are no longer practical for daily use
- Recalled or faulty EV models -- vehicles with known battery defects requiring specialist handling
How We Operate
Our scrap electric car process from start to finish:
- High-Voltage Isolation -- The vehicle's HV system is shut down following the manufacturer's specific disconnect procedure before any work begins.
- Insulated Tooling -- All work on the HV system uses tools rated to 1,000V and technicians wear Category 3 insulated gloves and face shields.
- Battery Pack Removal -- The pack is unbolted, disconnected, and lowered using rated lifting equipment. No pack is punctured, cut, or dropped.
- Fireproof Storage -- Removed batteries are placed into ventilated, fireproof containers with thermal monitoring until they are collected by the recycler.
- Specialist Recycling -- Battery packs are sent to a licensed facility that recovers lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese, and copper.
- Vehicle Processing -- The remainder of the vehicle is depolluted and recycled to the same standard as any other car at our ATF.

Yes, when handled by qualified technicians. EV battery systems operate at 400 to 800 volts. Our team follows manufacturer disconnect procedures, uses insulated tools rated to 1,000V, and stores removed packs in ventilated, fireproof bays.
Not safely. Standard scrap yards often lack the training and equipment to handle high-voltage battery systems. Using an unqualified yard risks electrical injury, fire, and toxic chemical release. We are specifically equipped for EV disposal.
The battery is isolated, disconnected, and removed by trained technicians. It is then stored in a fireproof container and sent to a specialist battery recycler who recovers lithium, cobalt, nickel, and other materials.
Yes. We handle mild hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and full battery-electric vehicles. Each type has a different high-voltage system layout, and our technicians are trained on all common configurations.
It can be. EVs tend to be heavier due to the battery pack, which increases scrap metal value. The battery itself may have recoverable materials worth more than scrap weight. We factor both into your quote.
Yes. The same DVLA paperwork applies to electric vehicles as petrol and diesel cars. We file the V5C notification and post a Certificate of Destruction to your address.
