You have accepted a quote and booked your collection. Now what? Here is everything you need to do before the scrap car collector arrives to make sure the process goes smoothly and you do not leave anything behind.
Remove All Personal Belongings
This sounds obvious but you would be surprised how many people forget items in their car. Check the glove box, door pockets, under seats, the boot, and any hidden compartments. Look for phone chargers, sunglasses, documents, CDs, and anything else of personal value. Once the car leaves, retrieving items becomes very difficult.
Check for Valuables
Remove any aftermarket accessories you want to keep, such as dash cams, phone holders, sat nav units, and child seats. If you have expensive alloy wheels and want to keep them, discuss this with us before collection. However, removing major components may affect your quote.
Gather Your Paperwork
Have your V5C registration document ready. You will also need photo ID (driving licence or passport) and proof of address. If you have lost your V5C, do not worry. We can still scrap your car with alternative identification.
Cancel Your Insurance
Contact your insurance provider to cancel your policy or transfer it to another vehicle. If you have paid annually, you may be entitled to a refund for the remaining months. Do this on the day of collection or immediately after.
Cancel Your Road Tax
Road tax cancellation is handled automatically when the DVLA processes the scrapping notification. You will receive a refund for any full remaining months of tax. We handle the DVLA paperwork for you as part of our car scrapping service.
Remove Number Plates (Optional)
If you have a private registration plate you want to keep, you must apply to the DVLA to retain it before scrapping. Once the car is destroyed, the registration is gone forever. We can advise on this process.
Ensure Access for Collection
Make sure the vehicle is accessible for our collection truck. Clear any obstructions and ensure there is enough space for a flatbed or tow truck to reach the car safely.
