Scrapping your car involves several steps, and having a checklist ensures nothing is missed. Here is your complete guide to everything you need to do before, during, and after your vehicle is collected by our car scrapping service.
Before Collection
Remove all personal belongings from every compartment, pocket, and storage area. Locate your V5C registration certificate and have it ready. Remove any aftermarket accessories you want to keep such as dash cameras, sat navs, and phone mounts. Consider transferring any private registration plate before scrapping — once the car is destroyed, the plate is lost forever.
Check for Valuables
Look under seats, in the boot well, inside the spare wheel compartment, in sun visor pockets, and in the glove box. People routinely leave sunglasses, coins, important documents, and sentimental items in cars. Our scrap yard processes vehicles quickly, so recovering forgotten items after collection is difficult.
During Collection
Have your V5C and keys ready for the driver. The driver will verify the vehicle registration, make, and model match the quote details. Sign the V5C Section 9 to transfer the vehicle. Receive your payment — cash or instant bank transfer. Keep the yellow V5C slip as your record of transfer to our breakers yard.
After Collection
Cancel your car insurance and request a refund for unused premium. DVLA will automatically refund remaining road tax when the notification is processed. Store your Certificate of Destruction safely — this is your permanent proof of legal disposal through our auto salvage facility.
Optional Steps
Notify your finance company if applicable. Update your insurer about changes to your vehicle ownership. If the scrapped car affects your parking arrangements, notify your council. Keep the scrap payment receipt for your records. Check our quote page anytime you have another vehicle to scrap.
